Harish Takes the Helm as India's UN Representative
Parvathaneni Harish (IFS 1990) begins his role as India’s Permanent Representative at the UN Headquarters in New York.
New York: India’s newly appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish (IFS 1990), has officially assumed his position at the UN Headquarters in New York. On his first day, Harish engaged in key discussions with UN officials, highlighting India’s dedication to global cooperation.
Harish met with Dennis Francis, President of the United Nations General Assembly, where they addressed urgent topics such as climate change effects on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and ongoing international conflicts, underscoring India’s readiness to tackle these challenges.
He also held a productive meeting with Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Technology Envoy, focusing on India’s strides in AI and exploring ways to leverage AI advancements globally. Additionally, Harish connected with Beatrix Kania, UN Protocol Chief, expressing his commitment to building a strong working relationship.
Upon arrival, Harish was welcomed by India’s Deputy Permanent Representative, R. Ravindra, and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by visiting his statue on the UN grounds. Reflecting on Gandhi’s legacy in a post on 'X', Harish shared: “There is no path to peace; peace is the path.”
