LUCKNOW- A revolutionary study led by neuroscientist Laura Bradfield at the University of Technology Sydney has challenged the traditional "habit loop" theory. Researchers found that neuroinflammation in the striatum—a key brain region—causes astrocytes to interfere with neurons, leading to persistent compulsive actions.

By shifting the focus from entrenched habits to biological inflammation, this discovery opens new doors for treating disorders like OCD and addiction. Experts suggest that anti-inflammatory interventions, including exercise and targeted medications, could eventually help patients regain lost cognitive control.
