MUMBAI-HDFC Bank has achieved a significant milestone by integrating the Reserve Bank of India’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) into its SmartGateway platform. This integration allows online merchants to accept the government-backed Digital Rupee (e-₹) alongside traditional UPI and card payments.
By leveraging this technology, HDFC Bank is driving the adoption of the Digital Rupee, reducing transaction costs for businesses while ensuring settlement certainty. With over 8.45 lakh registered CBDC wallets, the bank continues to lead India’s shift toward a robust, inclusive cash-light economy.
