Writer-Director Abhishek Pathak Reflects on a Career Shaped by Iconic Shows
Filmmaker Abhishek Pathak shares career milestones, from writing for iconic shows like CID to his foray into films and OTT.

For Pathak, his journey came full circle when he got the chance to write for CID and Aahat, two shows he grew up watching. "To come to Mumbai with the dream of becoming a writer and then to write for Fireworks Productions under the legendary B.P. Singh Sir remains one of the most defining moments of my journey," he said. This experience, he notes, not only validated his career choice but also helped shape him into the storyteller he is today.
Another significant milestone for Pathak was his collaboration with producer Ekta Kapoor. "Having grown up watching her shows, getting the opportunity to pitch and narrate stories to her was surreal," he added. These early experiences gave him the confidence and foundation to build a diverse body of work.
Pathak’s writing career began with Gutur Gu, India's first silent comedy show. From there, he contributed to several long-running and iconic television series, including the aforementioned CID and Aahat. His portfolio also includes popular crime and drama shows like Supercops vs Supervillains, Laut Aao Trisha, and Mauka-e-Vardaat, for which he not only wrote but also helped develop its unique "How Dunnit" crime format.
Venturing beyond traditional television, Pathak has made a successful transition into the digital and audio spaces. He developed and wrote the web series Talab for ALTBalaji and is the creative force behind the upcoming series Latkhors, which he both conceptualized and directed. He also served as a Creative Director and additional writer on a forthcoming series for Amazon MX Player.
His success wasn’t limited to video. At Pratilipi Studios, he co-created Chakia Ki Daayan, a highly successful audio show that ran for nearly 350 episodes and was later adapted into a TV series for Star Bharat.
Pathak's most recent project marks his official entry into the world of cinema. He has written Naani Ki Kahaani, a heartfelt short film soon to be released on YouTube. He sees this project as the first step in his evolution as a storyteller. "Having worked across multiple storytelling mediums, my next big step is to dive into films," he said. "I’m excited to explore the cinematic world."
