Mumbai :Actor Rohit Devda is making a grand entry into the mythological genre, taking on the powerful and divine role of Indradev in Prem Sagar and Shiv Sagar's new show, "Kaamdhenu Gaumata." Produced under the banner of Sagar World Multimedia, the series recently premiered, with Devda expressing his immense excitement and a sense of responsibility for the role.

"Playing a role like Indradev is both powerful and graceful," Devda said. "I’ve always admired mythological characters, so getting the chance to play the king of the gods was a huge moment for me." He acknowledged the high expectations that come with such a role, noting, "These roles aren't just acting parts; they come with a lot of respect and expectations from the audience. It’s a huge responsibility."

Devda shared the meticulous preparation that went into transforming himself for the character. He explained that portraying a mythological figure is vastly different from a regular role. His preparation began with extensive research. "I started by reading about who Indra truly is—not just the surface-level stories, but what he represents," he said. He delved into the complex layers of the character, exploring Indra's ego, emotions, power, and responsibilities.

In addition to research, he studied older mythological shows and scripts to understand the classic portrayal of such characters. Physically, he worked on his posture and expressions to achieve a "larger-than-life presence." He also credited the elaborate costumes and makeup for helping him get into character, but emphasized that the most crucial part was staying true to the dignity and energy the role demands.

When asked to compare the challenges of physical transformation versus mastering the unique language, Devda admitted that the dialect was the tougher of the two. "Physical transformation can be achieved with discipline—you work out, eat right, and the costumes and makeup do the rest," he explained. "But the language of mythological characters isn’t everyday Hindi. It’s formal, poetic, and has a specific rhythm." He added that delivering the lines naturally while maintaining the correct pronunciation and tone requires significant effort and practice. "You have to feel the lines and still sound natural, which is not easy," he said.

Devda also touched upon the importance of separating his on-screen persona from his real life. He consciously makes an effort to switch back to being himself once the camera stops rolling. "When you're playing a divine and larger-than-life character like Indradev, it's easy to get completely absorbed. But at the end of the day, I remind myself that it's just a role," he stated.

Expressing his pride in being part of the show, Devda highlighted that "Kaamdhenu Gaumata" brings a unique and unexplored story from Hindu mythology to the screen. "It's not just another mythological show," he said. "It's a big opportunity to be part of something fresh yet deeply rooted in our culture. There's a sense of pride because we are contributing to telling a story that holds spiritual and cultural value."
