SBI Lucknow Celebrates 70th Foundation Day with Meaningful CSR Contribution to Shelter Home for Women
SBI Lucknow marked its 70th Foundation Day with a ₹5 lakh CSR donation to a women’s shelter home, Matrichhaya Ashram.

Lucknow: On the occasion of its 70th Foundation Day, the State Bank of India (SBI), Lucknow Circle, marked the milestone not just with ceremonies but through a compassionate act of social responsibility. In a heartwarming gesture, the bank extended support to Matrichhaya Ashram, a shelter home dedicated to homeless and mentally challenged women, through a generous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The chief guest of the event, Mr. Deepak Kumar De, Chief General Manager of SBI Lucknow Circle, handed over a cheque of ₹5 lakh to Umeed Sansthan, the NGO managing the shelter. Along with the financial aid, the bank also donated essential supplies including food grains, clothing, and other daily necessities for the residents of the shelter.
Matrichhaya Ashram, located in the city of Lucknow, has been a beacon of hope for marginalized and mentally ill women who are abandoned or neglected by society. The shelter provides round-the-clock care, medical attention, rehabilitation, and a safe environment for its residents. The financial aid from SBI is expected to significantly contribute to the improvement of living conditions and better services for the women under the care of the ashram.
Mr. Harpreet Singh, a member of Umeed Sansthan, expressed heartfelt gratitude to SBI for their generous donation and continuous support. “It is deeply encouraging to see a reputed institution like SBI stepping forward to support causes that often go unnoticed. This act of kindness will go a long way in helping us provide quality care and restore dignity to our residents,” said Mr. Singh during the event.
The Foundation Day celebrations were held at the SBI Local Head Office in Lucknow, attended by several senior officials including General Managers, Deputy General Managers, and other staff members. The event was not only a reflection of SBI's longstanding legacy in the Indian banking sector but also a reaffirmation of its commitment to social welfare and community development.
Mr. Deepak Kumar De, in his address, emphasized the importance of inclusive growth and corporate responsibility. “As we celebrate 70 years of SBI’s service to the nation, it is our duty to ensure that our growth benefits every section of society. CSR is not just an obligation, but a moral responsibility that aligns with the core values of our bank,” he stated.
SBI’s commitment to community welfare has always been integral to its operations. Over the years, the bank has undertaken numerous CSR initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, environment, rural development, and gender empowerment. This particular initiative is yet another example of SBI’s resolve to uplift underprivileged sections of society.
