New Delhi : In a landmark move poised to boost the economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Railways has launched a dedicated parcel cargo train service from the region. The inaugural train, a Rapid Cargo Train consisting of eight parcel van coaches, each with a carrying capacity of 23 tons, was flagged off today from the Budgam Railway Station in the Kashmir Valley. This new service will connect the valley directly to Adarsh Nagar in Delhi, providing a crucial and efficient transport link for local goods.

The flag-off ceremony was a momentous occasion, led by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, at the Srinagar Railway Station. The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Shri Javed Ahmed Dar, the Agriculture Minister of Jammu and Kashmir; Dr. Manoj Singh, Additional Member of the Railway Board; Shri Vivek Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu; and other senior officials. The local business community also had a strong presence, highlighting the significance of this new service for regional trade. The atmosphere was filled with national pride, underscored by patriotic melodies played by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Orchestra Band.

During his address, Lt. Governor Shri Manoj Sinha expressed his delight, stating, "We are pleased to be a part of this significant initiative that will contribute to the economic development of the region." He emphasized that the new cargo service aims to offer a fast, secure, and reliable transportation option for various products and commodities, ensuring timely delivery and a reduction in logistics costs. This initiative is a testament to the government's commitment to improving connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region.

The Divisional Railway Manager of Jammu, Shri Vivek Kumar, echoed this sentiment, calling the launch a "historic achievement and a matter of pride." He highlighted that this new parcel cargo train is proof of Indian Railways' dedication to playing a vital role in the nation's development. This new service is expected to be a game-changer for Kashmir's economy, enabling artisans, farmers, and businesses to transport their products to major markets with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

The introduction of this cargo train will facilitate the swift movement of perishable goods, handicrafts, and other local products, opening up new avenues for trade and commerce.
