KGMU Faculty Makes History at Global Liver Summit
Three KGMU faculty members made history by presenting groundbreaking liver research at AASLD 2025 in Washington, D.C.
Lucknow : In an unprecedented achievement for the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, three of its distinguished faculty members have made history by presenting their research at The Liver Meeting®️ 2025—the annual scientific congress of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD)—held from November 7-11 in Washington, D.C., USA. This marks the first time in KGMU’s history that faculty has been invited to present on this premier international platform.
The distinguished delegation included Dr. Ajay Kumar Patwa and Dr. Sudhir Kumar Verma from the Hepatobiliary Division of the Department of Medicine, alongside Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Verma from the Pediatric Hepatology Division.
Their presentations offered cutting-edge insights to an audience of global specialists. Dr. Ajay Kumar Patwa presented a propensity score-matched study on the Impact of Liver Transplant and Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in ACLF Patients, providing crucial data on outcomes for infected and non-infected cohorts. Dr. Sudhir Kumar Verma showcased pioneering research on the Efficacy and Safety of Oral Ibandronate for managing hepatic osteodystrophy. Meanwhile, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Verma presented a clinically significant pediatric study on using Splenic Stiffness and Size to differentiate key causes of portal hypertension in children.
This historic representation signifies KGMU’s growing leadership in advanced liver disease research and academic excellence, strengthening India’s presence in the global hepatology community. The university's Vice-Chancellor called it a "proud moment," while delegation lead Dr. Ajay Kumar Patwa expressed commitment to elevating KGMU’s research standards to international heights. The achievement is expected to inspire young researchers and significantly enhance KGMU’s global academic visibility.
