This trend is very worrying. Keeping this in mind, with the aim of making women aware of cancer, Fortis Hospital Noida has started a special clinic for gynecological cancer.
According to statistics, every year about five lakh women in the world suffer from gynecological cancer. More than one lakh new cases are reported in India alone. Among these, cervical cancer is the biggest threat.
Every year, about 1.25 lakh women are diagnosed with this cancer, and more than half of them die from it. This cancer is more prevalent in women aged 55 to 59 years.
Most of these women get cancer due to a virus called HPV. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 15 to 44 years.
Dr. Priya Bansal, Consultant, Gynecological Oncosurgery, Fortis Hospital Noida, says, "Most deaths occur due to gynecological cancer because this disease is detected late. Cancer can be controlled with timely checkups and awareness.
The sooner it is detected, the greater is the possibility of its cure. Our newly launched clinic provides complete care from initial diagnosis to best treatment."
She further says that :
A quarter of all cancers in women are gynecological cancers. Every year, about 11,000 women die of cervical cancer. Ovarian cancer is often detected late, as its early symptoms are minimal. According to a report by the Indian Council of Medical Research, one in six women may develop breast or other gynecological cancers. In 2020, 712,758 women in India were diagnosed with cancer.
She says, “Timely and correct treatment plays an important role in cancer prevention. Here you can get advice from specialist doctors, and operations can also be done with the help of robots. Apart from this, advanced techniques like medicines (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy are also available for cancer treatment.”
Mr. Mohit Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital Noida, highlighted the overarching goal of this initiative: “Our aim is to raise awareness about the importance of regular checkups and timely consultations.
