Environmental Chemistry and its role in sustainable life

Lucknow. In its continuous pursuit to achieve academic and research excellence, the Department of Chemistry organised a Ninth Special Guest Lecture on May 24, 2024. This lecture was delivered by Prof. Alka Rani from Hindu College, Moradabad. In the beginning, Prof. Anil Mishra, Head of the Chemistry Department welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of Environmental Chemistry by studying the chemical processes that occur in the environment and how human activities impact these processes.

He mentioned that By continuing to expand the scope of research and applications, environmental chemistry remains at the forefront of efforts to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for the planet. Prof. Alka Rani was introduced to the audience by Prof. V.K. Sharma and a memento was presented to him by Dr. Neeraj Kumar Mishra. 

In her lecture on “Environmental Chemistry and its role in Sustainable Life” Prof. Alka Rani spoke about how Environmental chemistry plays a crucial role in sustainable life by studying the chemical processes that occur in the environment and how human activities impact these processes.

This field focuses on understanding the composition and behavior of chemical substances in natural settings, including air, water, and soil. She mentioned some key ways environmental chemistry contributes to sustainability like Pollution Control and Remediation, Green Chemistry, Climate Change Mitigation, Water Quality Management, Air Quality Monitoring, Sustainable Agriculture etc. By integrating these aspects, environmental chemistry supports the development of practices and technologies that reduce environmental impact, promote resource conservation, and enhance the overall quality of life, paving the way for a sustainable future.
