India Post Launches Green Drive to Combat Plastic Pollution on World Environment Day
India Post marks World Environment Day with tree plantations and eco-awareness to fight plastic pollution and global warming.

Ahmedabad: India Post celebrated World Environment Day with a green mission under the global theme "Beat Plastic Pollution." The Department of Posts, led by the Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region and Saurashtra & Kutch Region, Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, organized a tree plantation and environmental awareness event at Rajkot Head Post Office on June 5.
To commemorate the day, Mr. Yadav released a special cancellation mark and planted trees along with postal staff, urging collective efforts to preserve the environment. Highlighting the theme of this year’s campaign, he stressed the urgency of reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
“Environmental protection is not a choice anymore—it is a necessity,” said Mr. Yadav. “To ensure that future generations breathe clean air, we must plant trees and treat them like family members. Trees are not just a symbol of life but our defense against global warming.”
He appealed to postal employees to switch to eco-friendly alternatives, reduce plastic use, and make green lifestyle choices. He encouraged everyone to not limit such actions to just World Environment Day, but to integrate them into everyday life. “Planting trees once a year is not enough; each of us should plant a tree every month,” he added.
Plastic pollution, which has become a severe environmental crisis globally, was a central focus during the event. Mr. Yadav urged everyone present to act against it by minimizing plastic use and spreading awareness in their communities.
Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Shri R. R. Virda, emphasized shared responsibility in protecting the planet. Senior Postmaster K. S. Shukla added, “Trees give us life, and it is our duty not only to plant them but to protect them as well.”
Assistant Director K. S. Thakkar promoted the campaign with the slogan "One Person, One Tree," underscoring that even a single act can lead to significant change.
The event saw the participation of several postal officials and environmental advocates, including Superintendent of RMS Shri Anil Kumar, Rajkot Philatelic Association Secretary Shri H. C. Mehta, Rajkot Philatelic Society Secretary Shri Jignesh Shah, and others like Shri Rajesh Kothari, Assistant Superintendent B. K. Zid, Inspector J. J. Dangar, and Shri Bhavesh Kubavat.
India Post's initiative reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and community engagement. The campaign not only honored World Environment Day but also laid the foundation for an ongoing movement against plastic pollution and ecological degradation.
