India Gifts 15 Electric Vehicles to Nepal Ahead of Sagarmatha Dialogue 2025
India gifts electric cars to Nepal, supporting logistics for the Sagarmatha Dialogue on climate, mountain, and humanity in May 2025.

The handover ceremony took place on Sunday, where Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, officially presented the EVs to Nepal's Foreign Minister, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu described the act as a "symbol of friendship and goodwill," underscoring India’s ongoing commitment to supporting its neighbors under the “Neighbourhood First” policy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Srivastava highlighted the practical purpose of the vehicles. “These electric cars will significantly aid the transportation of delegates and officials during the Sagarmatha Dialogue,” he said. He also drew a parallel to previous logistical support provided by India — such as during Nepal’s 2022 provincial and federal elections, when similar transport and technical aid was extended to Nepal’s law enforcement agencies and the Election Commission.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba expressed sincere gratitude for India's timely support, emphasizing how the electric vehicles would ease mobility for international guests and officials during the summit. She welcomed India’s growing involvement in sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives in the region.
The Sagarmatha Dialogue, named after the Nepali name for Mount Everest, aims to bring together policymakers, environmental experts, and leaders from around the world to address pressing issues related to climate change in mountainous regions and its broader impact on humanity. The event will serve as a platform to promote sustainable development strategies, particularly for high-altitude ecosystems vulnerable to global warming.
The Indian government’s support, beyond facilitating smooth logistics, aligns with both countries’ shared vision of promoting green energy and environmental sustainability. The use of electric vehicles not only enhances Nepal’s green transport infrastructure but also supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions and urban pollution.
This latest assistance reflects the depth of India-Nepal bilateral relations. India has consistently supported Nepal across various sectors, from infrastructure and energy to education, disaster relief, and healthcare. The addition of electric vehicles reinforces the emphasis on technology-driven and eco-conscious cooperation.
With India’s gesture, the Sagarmatha Dialogue is poised to begin on a note of regional solidarity and environmental responsibility — showcasing how diplomacy and sustainability can go hand in hand.
