MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh’s Visit to Mozambique and Zimbabwe Strengthens India-Africa Ties

Maputo : Minister of State for External Affairs Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh concluded his official visit to the Republic of Mozambique and has now arrived in Zimbabwe as part of a strategic diplomatic tour of southeastern Africa from June 21 to 28, 2025.

During his time in Mozambique, Minister Singh engaged in high-level meetings with top leadership to enhance the growing bilateral relationship between India and Mozambique. His visit coincided with a historic occasion—Mozambique’s 50th Independence Day, celebrated on June 25, where he officially represented the Government of India.

Posting on social media platform X, Singh shared,

“Honoured to participate in Mozambique’s 50th Independence Day celebrations. Paid tribute to the nation’s founding heroes at Heroes Square and took part in the grand event at Machava Stadium. Heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of Mozambique on this special day.”

On June 23, Singh held bilateral discussions with Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas. Describing the meeting as productive, he noted:

“We reviewed the progress of India-Mozambique ties and discussed avenues to strengthen our growing cooperation.”

Singh also addressed the Indian-origin community in Maputo, emphasizing India’s inclusive development journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the deepening partnership with Africa. He highlighted India's commitment to people-centric diplomacy and diaspora outreach.

Reinforcing India’s soft power, Singh inaugurated a Jaipur Foot artificial limb fitment camp in Maputo—funded by the Government of India. The camp aims to provide free prosthetic limbs to over 1,200 beneficiaries, advancing India’s image as a compassionate global partner.

Further emphasizing cultural and historical ties, the minister also visited the 120-year-old Salamanga Hindu Temple, a symbolic landmark representing the long-standing legacy of Indian immigrants in Mozambique.

Singh has now reached Zimbabwe, where he is scheduled to hold meetings with various government ministers. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions will focus on wildlife conservation, sustainable resource management, and climate change collaboration.

Singh’s tour reflects India’s increasing diplomatic and developmental engagement with African nations, especially in the context of South-South cooperation. The visit is expected to reinforce India's role as a key development partner in the region and further expand economic, health, and environmental cooperation.

As both countries move forward with shared goals, Singh’s outreach is seen as a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to a stronger, inclusive, and sustainable India-Africa relationship.
