New Delhi. Sabrang Foundation: A platform for diversity and inclusivity, for all organised its 4th free open mic event “Celebrating Diversity with Sabrang” on 10th August 2024. The event took place in Shastri Nagar, New Delhi, which mainly featured people from marginalised communities and differently-abled. The event aimed to promote equality and inclusivity among various communities.
The event was graced by Anitya Narayan Mishra, also known as “Bebak Jaunpuri”, as the Chief Guest. Mishra is not only a respected poet and literary figure but also serves as the Official Language Hindi Section Officer in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. His powerful poems mesmerised the audience, and he also recited some of his poems. Poetry shers were also shared.
The event was graced by the presence of special guests Rizwan Raza, Organisation Minister (LKRL), poet Harish Bhardwaj and Chairman of DD Sports, Mr. Dinesh Sharma.
A highlight of the event was that some auto rickshaw drivers performed on stage for the first time. It was a unique opportunity for them, and their performance impressed the audience.
"Celebrating Diversity with Sabrang" provided an inclusive platform to specially abled persons associated with Delhi-based NGO Eagle Eye. Besides, students from underprivileged backgrounds, transgender persons, senior citizens and visually impaired persons recited their original and famous poems at the event.
Neera Bakshi, Founder-Director of Sabrang, emphasized that the main objective of such events is to uncover hidden talents. She said, "Our endeavour is to provide a platform to those who have not been able to showcase their abilities due to various circumstances."
Ram Lakhan, an auto driver who attended the event, expressed his gratitude to Sabrang and Neera Bakshi, saying, “Coming on this unique platform is like a dream come true. It is an experience of my life that can never be forgotten.” Ram Lakhan addressed Neera as ‘Maanta’.
At the end of the event, Neera Bakshi thanked her team and appreciated their collective efforts to make the event a success. She also acknowledged that there were many challenges during the event, but the unity and dedication of her team made it a success. Neera Bakshi, who has written and directed many plays based on social issues, reiterated her commitment to the use of art to change the mindset of society.
Sabrang Foundation will continue to raise the voices of different sections of society through similar platforms, so that their rights and identity can be acknowledged.
