New Delhi. In a significant step towards upgrading and strengthening the civic and urban infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir,Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the new rail line between Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan (48 Km worth Rs 15,863 Cr.) and the newly electrified Baramulla-Sringar-Banihal-Sangaldan section (185.66 Km worth Rs 470.23  Cr.). Prime Minister will also flag off the first Electric Train in the valley and also train service between Sangaldan & Baramulla station (at Srinagar).

The commissioning of the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section is significant as it features the usage of Ballast Less Track (BLT) all along the route providing a better riding experience to the passengers. Also, India’s longest transportation tunnel T-50 (12.77 Km) lies in this portion between Khari-Sumber. The rail projects will improve connectivity, ensure environmental sustainability and boost the overall economic development of the region.
USBRL Project, which spans through challenging terrain of Pir Panjal Ranges and it aims to establish an all-weather comfortable, and economically feasible transportation network with rest of the country. Of the total 272-km USBRL Project(with Rs 41,119 Cr Project Cost), 161 km has already been commissionedso far and 48km.betweenBanihal-Sangaldan will be commissioned on 20.02.2024.
Currently, the diesel run trains operate on Baramulla-Banihal section (138 km) and with the new line becoming operational, commuters can now travel by train from Baramulla to Sangaldan.Railways will script a new history of trains running on clean fuel in the Valley which has 20 stations on this section.
