Yogi Adityanath Spins Charkha, Buys Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti
CM Yogi Adityanath spun the charkha and bought khadi at Lucknow's Gandhi Ashram, urging swadeshi on Gandhi Jayanti.
LUCKNOW-Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath marked GandhiJayanti2026 at the Regional Gandhi Ashram in Hazratganj on Friday. He paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi's statue, sat at the charkha to spin yarn, and bought a khadi garment, promoting Swadeshi and AatmanirbharBharat.
Calling khadi a movement rather than mere cloth, Yogi Adityanath said it links the nation's heritage with ordinary livelihoods. He urged citizens to embrace VocalForLocal, explaining that buying khadi and local products directly supports rural weavers, artisans and village economies across UttarPradesh.
Officials, ashram staff, artisans and citizens attended the event in Lucknow, viewing khadi displays. Observed every October 2, Gandhi Jayanti honours MahatmaGandhi's ideals of truth, non-violence and self-reliance, while the charkha remains a lasting symbol of economic independence.
