Jaishankar inaugurated projects built with India's grant assistance in Maldives

New Delhi. During his visit between 9-11 August, the External Affairs Minister met the President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Mohammed Muizzu.

During this, President Muizzu appreciated India's continued development assistance provided to the Maldives and reaffirmed his commitment to further deepen India-Maldives relations.

Jaishankar inaugurated India's Line of Credit (LOC) assisted project of water and sewerage network in 28 islands of Maldives.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that Jaishankar reviewed the entire aspects of bilateral relations with his counterpart Musa Zameer. He also held fruitful discussions with the Defense Minister, in which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Maldives defense and security partnership.

The External Affairs Minister also met the Ministers of Finance and Economic Development and Trade and the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority and discussed ways to strengthen trade and economic ties between the two countries.

The External Affairs Minister also met a delegation led by Abdulla Shahid, President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the statement said. In Male, MoUs were exchanged on capacity building of additional 1000 Maldivian civil servants in India and introduction of UPI in Maldives.

Six High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) under grant assistance by India in the areas of mental health, special education, speech therapy and street lighting were also jointly inaugurated.

The External Affairs Minister also interacted with members of the Indian community in Male and appreciated their contribution to India-Maldives relations. The External Affairs Minister also visited Addu city during which he inaugurated the Addu Reclamation and Shore Protection Project and the Addu Detour Link Bridge Project.
