UP Government Focuses on Boosting Dairy Farmers' Income Through Modern Tech and Subsidies

Lucknow / Varanasi : Uttar Pradesh Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, Dharampal Singh, emphasized the state government's ongoing efforts to enhance the income of livestock farmers. Speaking at the inauguration of the rural festival ‘Rangilo Kashi’, organized at the BHU Helipad Ground in Varanasi, the Minister outlined key initiatives, including a 50% subsidy on cattle purchases, provision of high-quality semen, and comprehensive vaccination drives aimed at reducing production costs while increasing milk yield through modern technology.

The Rangilo Kashi festival was organized by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in collaboration with its subsidiary, NDDB Dairy Services (NDS). The event was attended by NDDB Director Durga Prasad Mishra, NDDB and NDS Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah, and Dairy Development Commissioner Dhanalakshmi K., along with other prominent officials.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Meenesh Shah stated that ‘Rangilo Kashi’ aims to connect farmers with advanced knowledge, modern technology, and emerging market opportunities while fostering innovation in the dairy sector. He noted that collaborative efforts with the UP government are driving increased milk productivity and higher returns for local farmers.

Highlighting the state's leadership in the sector, NDDB Director Durga Prasad Mishra pointed out that Uttar Pradesh remains India's largest milk producer, contributing nearly 16% to the nation’s total milk output, while still holding vast untapped potential for growth.

Dairy Development Commissioner Dhanalakshmi K. detailed the government's strategic roadmap, which includes establishing dairy cooperative societies in every district and expanding the Rashtriya Gokul Mission down to the block level. She further highlighted targeted efforts to empower women dairy farmers under the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ vision.

A major attraction at the inauguration was the ‘Nandi Show’, featuring indigenous bull breeds such as Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Bhadawari, and Gir. The ceremony concluded with the felicitation of high-achieving children of local farmers and beneficiaries of various dairy development schemes.
