Georgetown : #PrimeMinisterNarendraModi visited the Indian Arrival Monument in Georgetown, Guyana, on Thursday, marking a significant gesture of recognition towards the contributions of the Indian diaspora in the country. Accompanied by Guyana's Prime Minister Brigadier (Retd) Mark Phillips, PM Modi paid a floral tribute at the monument, which commemorates the arrival of indentured Indian migrants in 1838. A vibrant ensemble of Tassa drums welcomed the Prime Minister, adding to the cultural richness of the moment.

The monument, a replica of the first ship that carried indentured laborers from India to Guyana, was gifted by India to Guyana in 1991. During his visit, PM Modi expressed deep respect for the sacrifices made by the Indian diaspora, which played a key role in preserving and promoting Indian culture and traditions in the Caribbean. He also planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument as a symbol of respect and continuity.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Promenade Gardens in Georgetown. He paid homage to the Father of the Nation, reflecting on his values of peace, non-violence, and compassion that continue to inspire global movements today. The Gandhi statue was installed in 1969 to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Through this, PM Modi reiterated the relevance of Gandhi’s ideals, particularly in the realm of diplomacy, where his teachings serve as guiding principles during international engagements.
