MUMBAI- The Indian rupee settled 16 paise lower at 89.79 against the US dollar this Wednesday, pressured by relentless capital withdrawals by foreign institutional investors. Heightened demand for the greenback from bullion importers and rising Brent crude prices further dampened the local currency's recovery during the trading session.
Despite the Reserve Bank of India’s strategic interventions, including Open Market Operations and USD/INR swap auctions, market sentiment remained cautious. Analysts suggest that the year-end dollar shortage and global risk aversion continue to push the exchange rate toward new psychological resistance levels.
