Kanpur Advocate Shubham Joshi Demands Nationwide Advocate Protection Act
Kanpur advocate Shubham Joshi releases a video from Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, urging the Central Government to enact the Advocate Protection Act nationwide to ensure economic, social, and physical security for lawyers.
Kanpur: Emphasizing the urgent need for safety and financial stability for legal practitioners, young advocate Shubham Joshi, a member of the Advocate Welfare Struggle Committee (Adhivakta Kalyan Sangharsh Samiti), has urged the Central Government to implement the Advocate Protection Act across the country. He raised this demand through a video message released from the iconic Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Joshi explained that he had traveled to Jammu and Kashmir after visiting Leh-Laddakh, where he gathered insights on the working conditions of lawyers and evaluated the stipend and financial assistance models provided to junior advocates during the initial stages of their careers. During his study tour, he highlighted the growing vulnerabilities faced by advocates in the line of duty.
Addressing the issue, Shubham Joshi stated that advocates are an indispensable pillar of the justice delivery system. However, rising incidents of physical assaults, threats, and violence against legal professionals severely compromise their ability to work without fear. He emphasized that establishing robust, legally enforceable safeguards is crucial for advocates to uphold the rule of law independently and fearlessly.
Concluding his plea from Lal Chowk, the young advocate requested the Union Government to enact comprehensive protective legislation that safeguards not only the physical well-being of legal professionals but also addresses their social and economic welfare nationwide.
