Lucknow: In this accident, the young man's face was completely injured and other parts of the body also suffered serious injuries.

The multi-disciplinary team of doctors at Max Hospital led by Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Director - Dental & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr. Saurabh Kumar Singh not only saved the patient's life but also reconstructed his face to ensure that he was able to chew food using his jaw normally after recovery.

The patient, a resident of Prayagraj, was admitted to the emergency ward of Max Hospital in Lucknow. The patient had sustained multiple complex injuries in the accident, including severe facial fractures, fractures of the right leg and left collarbone. The injuries included fractures of the jaw, cheekbones, eye sockets and nose, as well as damage to lips and teeth.

Dr Saurabh Kumar Singh said, "The patient's condition was immediately assessed. His injuries were so severe that his face had swollen to almost three times its normal size. We stabilised the patient. To ensure the patient's survival, Dr Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi performed a tracheostomy and then the patient was taken for surgery."

A tracheostomy is a medical procedure that involves making a small hole in the throat and inserting a tube to help a patient breathe more easily, especially when it is difficult to breathe through the mouth or nose.

The surgical team then performed a complex operation lasting about 3–4 hours to repair multiple facial fractures.

Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi said, "The patient's injuries were so severe that we had to reconstruct the entire face. The procedure involved using mini titanium plates and screws to stabilize the bones. The soft tissues of the lips were also reconstructed. Our main focus was on restoring the original shape of the face and ensuring that he could chew normally. This required careful alignment of the bones and reconstruction of the soft tissues.

Due to the expertise of the medical team, the operation was successful and the patient showed significant improvement post-operation. The patient was discharged on the eighth day and is recovering well.

Dr Tulsi highlights the importance of timely treatment: “If such fractures are not treated promptly, the patient could suffer serious complications, including facial asymmetry and permanent difficulty in chewing.”

Max Hospital Lucknow is committed to providing world-class care to patients and has been at the forefront in achieving success in complex medical cases.
