India gives $2.5 million to help Palestinian refugees
Amid Israel and Palestine tensions, India has extended a helping hand to Palestinian refugees.
New Delhi. The Government of India has released the first installment of US $ 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
India's Representative Office in Ramallah, Palestine gave this information in an official statement. The Representative Office said in its statement that the Government of India has released the first installment of US $ 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), as part of its annual contribution of US $ 5 million for the year 2024-25.
In the last few years, India has provided many help to Palestinian refugees. India has provided financial assistance of US $ 35 million till 2023-24 for the main programs of the United Nations agency including education, healthcare relief and other social services provided to Palestinian refugees.
During a recent UNRWA conference held in New York, India reiterated its commitment to the safe, timely and continuous supply of humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine. Along with this, India announced that it would provide financial assistance as well as medicines to UNRWA based on the specific request of the agency.
