UP Chief Secretary Orders Immediate Relief for Cyclone-Hit Families, Sets 1,500-Site Target for EV Charging Stations

Lucknow. Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal on Wednesday held a weekly review meeting through video conferencing with all divisional commissioners and district magistrates, examining the progress of several public welfare schemes and relief operations across the state.

The meeting focused mainly on relief for families hit by heavy rainfall triggered by a cyclone, assessment of crop damage, development of Dr. Ambedkar statue sites, and installation of electric vehicle charging stations under the PM E-DRIVE scheme.

Directing officials to provide immediate assistance to affected families, Goyal said compensation for loss of life, livestock and damaged houses must be paid promptly as per rules. He added that families whose houses collapsed in the rains should receive admissible compensation at the earliest, and their eligibility should be verified so they can also be brought under housing schemes.

The Chief Secretary instructed officials to assess crop losses quickly and ensure farmers receive compensation without delay. He also asked them to coordinate with insurance companies and settle applications received under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana as soon as possible.

Assuring officials that adequate funds are available for relief work, Goyal said districts short of money should immediately send budget demand proposals to the government so that work does not suffer. He stressed that relief and rescue operations must be carried out with seriousness, sensitivity and promptness, warning that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.

Reviewing the Dr. Ambedkar statue site development scheme, he noted that some districts have not yet received applications in line with their targets. District magistrates were told to coordinate with public representatives, collect the required applications immediately, and begin development work after completing formalities. It was reported that work has started at all eight sites in Shravasti district.

On PM E-DRIVE, officials informed the meeting that 99 MoUs have been signed against 238 identified locations in NCR and non-NCR regions, while 139 remain pending. The Chief Secretary strictly directed that the remaining agreements be finalised quickly.

For the scheme's second phase, a target of identifying 1,500 charging station locations has been set. District magistrates were asked to shortlist public places, large offices, bus stations, industrial parks, educational institutions, malls, dhabas and parking areas, and send proposals to the concerned department promptly.
