Shardiya Navratri 2026: Goddess Kalyani Manifests as Shailputri on First Day in Prayagraj
Experience the divine fervor of Shardiya Navratri 2026 as thousands flock to Prayagraj's historic Kalyani Devi temple to witness the majestic Shailputri incarnation amidst Vedic chants and vibrant celebrations.
Prayagraj : The sacred atmosphere of Prayagraj vibrated with spiritual energy as the Shardiya Navratri festival commenced at the revered Maa Kalyani Devi Shaktipeeth. The celebrations began before dawn at 5:15 AM with traditional Mangla Aarti, accompanied by the resonant sounds of conch shells, bells, and gongs, setting a deeply devout tone for the days ahead.
At noon, following elaborate ritualistic worship and the offering of the Grand Bhog (Mahabhog), the presiding deity was exquisitely adorned to manifest the divine form of Goddess Shailputri. Seated majestically on a bull (Vrishabh), the Goddess was portrayed holding a trident (Trishul) and a lotus flower. Her breathtaking embellishments featured radiant gold and silver ornaments, beautifully complemented by fresh fragrant garlands of jasmine, roses, and marigolds.
Grand Rituals and Devotee Participation
Thousands of eager pilgrims gathered from early morning until midnight, filling the temple courtyard with echoing chants of "Jai Mata Di." The grand evening Maha Aarti was performed by Pt. Sushil Kumar Pathak at 7:00 PM.
Throughout the day, spiritual rituals flourished under the expert guidance of chief priest Pt. Santosh Kumar Mishra. A team of eleven priests conducted a continuous Maharudrabhishek and Shatchandi Mahayagna from morning till evening—a sacred tradition that will continue throughout the nine days of Navratri. Many families also seized the auspicious occasion to perform their children's traditional head-shaving (Mundan) ceremonies within the sanctified temple premises. To welcome the throngs of devotees, the entire temple and surrounding pathways have been illuminated with dazzling decorative lighting.
Looking Ahead to Day Two
As the festival progresses into its second day, the temple administration announced that Goddess Kalyani will be adorned to represent Goddess Brahmacharini. In this serene incarnation, the deity will appear in a meditative posture, holding a water pot (Kamandal) and a prayer rosary (Jap Mala), adorned with intricate new jewelry and fresh floral arrangements.(Report : Zainul Abdin)
