Kanpur Lawyer Demands ₹15,000 Monthly Stipend for Young Advocates from Umling La Peak

Kanpur : In an unprecedented move, the Advocate Welfare Struggle Committee (Adhivakta Kalyan Sangharsh Samiti) has urged the central government to provide a monthly financial incentive of ₹15,000 to young advocates during their initial five years of legal practice.

The unique demand was highlighted from Umling La in Ladakh—the world’s highest motorable pass recognized by the Guinness World Records. Young Kanpur advocate Shubham Joshi journeyed to the high-altitude peak to raise this issue directly with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

According to Pandit Ravindra Sharma, convener of the Advocate Welfare Struggle Committee, the legal fraternity has played a monumental role in national progress and social advancement since Independence. However, young lawyers entering the profession often face severe financial instability in their early years due to the lack of structured financial support or dedicated incentive schemes from the government.

Speaking on his initiative, Shubham Joshi emphasized that initial stipend support is crucial for sustaining law graduates through their primary years of practice, enabling them to focus on serving justice without the constant burden of financial strain.

Senior advocate Bhanu Pratap Dwivedi commended the adventurous effort, calling it a historic and creative milestone that will significantly amplify the demand for a national Young Lawyer Incentive Scheme. He announced that the local legal fraternity will organize a formal felicitation ceremony to welcome Shubham Joshi upon his return to Kanpur. Several prominent members of the bar were present during the announcement meeting and extended their enthusiastic support to the campaign.
