Suez Anchors Sustainability with Major Plantation Drive at Bharwara STP on Earth Day
Suez partners with IWAI for an Earth Day plantation drive at Bharwara STP, promoting environmental conservation and sustainable urban growth.
Lucknow : In a significant stride toward ecological restoration, Suez, the key operator under the city's ‘One City, One Operator’ initiative, celebrated World Earth Day by spearheading a comprehensive tree plantation drive at the 345 MLD Bharwara Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). In collaboration with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the event underscored a collective commitment to expanding the city’s green cover.
The initiative saw the planting of various indigenous saplings across the sprawling premises of the Bharwara plant. By integrating greenery with industrial operations, Suez aims to create a sustainable micro-climate that offsets the carbon footprint of large-scale sewage treatment.
The drive was more than a ceremonial gesture; it served as a call to action for:
- Plastic Reduction: Advocating for a cleaner Earth by minimizing synthetic waste.
- Afforestation: Encouraging mass plantation to ensure biodiversity.
- Environmental Stewardship: Educating the workforce and local community on their role as guardians of the planet.
Suez has consistently positioned sustainability at the core of its Lucknow operations. The Bharwara STP, one of the largest in the region, is being developed as a model for "green infrastructure" through periodic environmental programs.
Project Director Rajesh Mathpal emphasized that the company's vision transcends technical maintenance.
"Earth Day is a poignant reminder of our environmental duties. At Suez, we are committed to sustainable development. Small acts, like planting a sapling today, are the foundation for significant positive changes tomorrow. Our mission isn't just about operational efficiency; it’s about active participation in nature’s preservation," Mathpal stated.
The program concluded with a powerful message: environmental conservation is a collective responsibility. By taking small, deliberate steps today, Suez and its partners aim to secure a clean, safe, and breathable future for the next generation of Lucknow’s citizens.
