TRAI Assesses Mobile Network Quality in Gorakhpur City and Lucknow-Gorakhpur Rail Route

Gorakhpur : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of its independent drive tests (IDT) conducted across Gorakhpur city and the Lucknow-Gorakhpur railway route for May 2026. This initiative aims to evaluate the real-time quality of both voice and data mobile network services provided by various Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA).

The exhaustive assessment was executed between May 4, 2026, and May 8, 2026, under the close supervision of TRAI’s Regional Office in Bhopal. The specialized drive tests covered a 342.1 km city drive, 11 critical hotspot locations, a 3.7 km walk test, and a 296.3 km stretch along the Lucknow-Gorakhpur railway route.

During these field tests, TRAI measured key Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, including network coverage, call drop rates, call setup success rates, as well as data download and upload throughputs. The performance data reflects the ground-level network reality of the TSPs at the specific days and times of the audit.

To capture an authentic snapshot of user experience across diverse environments—including high-traffic public transit hubs and hotspots—the tests utilized live SIM cards from all major TSPs across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. Advanced testing handsets equipped with state-of-the-art software systems were deployed to monitor and analyze the sessions in real-time.

According to TRAI, publishing these independent performance metrics serves a dual purpose: it empowers general telecom consumers with transparent information about service quality in their region, while simultaneously nudging telecom service providers to identify gaps and upgrade their infrastructure for a seamless user experience.
