North Central Railway Crosses Milestone with 1.11 Crore Saplings Planted Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’
North Central Railway achieved a green milestone by planting 1,11,11,111 saplings under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, advancing steadily toward its target of two crore trees.
Prayagraj : North Central Railway (NCR) has registered an extraordinary environmental achievement under the national ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, crossing the one-crore plantation milestone with a tally of 1,11,11,111 saplings.
To commemorate this landmark achievement, NCR General Manager Naresh Pal Singh personally planted the symbolic 1,11,11,111th sapling during a special event hosted at Rail Gaon in Subedarganj. Joined by senior officers from the railway headquarters, the drive featured the planting of native fruit-bearing and medicinal flora, including Litchi, Tulsi, and Mango.
The massive eco-initiative originally kicked off on World Environment Day (June 5), establishing an ambitious target of two crore saplings across NCR’s entire jurisdiction for the current financial year. Under the leadership of GM Naresh Pal Singh, all three divisions contributed significantly to the count: Prayagraj Division led with 43.44 lakh saplings, Jhansi Division planted 42.09 lakh, and Agra Division added 25.58 lakh saplings to the green tally.
The campaign witnessed a massive single-day surge as over 13 lakh saplings were planted simultaneously across more than 300 railway stations and colonies spanning key cities such as Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Jhansi, Banda, Mirzapur, and Gwalior. To execute this large-scale afforestation drive, NCR systematically identified trackside wastelands, cleared accumulated railway scrap, and reclaimed encroached lands in partnership with local NGOs and the State Forest Department.
