Precision at 160 Kmph: North Central Railway Marks Historic Milestone with ‘Kavach’ Trials

Prayagraj: Under the strategic leadership of General Manager Naresh Pal Singh, the North Central Railway (NCR) has achieved a landmark feat in rail safety. The indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, ‘Kavach’, was successfully tested at a high-speed threshold of 160 km/hr on the Dadri-Tundla section of the Prayagraj Division.

On February 14, a critical phase of the trial was completed using a 20-coach Vande Bharat Express rake. The tests evaluated the system’s performance under high-speed operational conditions, specifically focusing on speed supervision and automatic braking interventions, both of which yielded precise results.

Expanding the Testing Scope
Following the success with Vande Bharat, the NCR plans to test the system with conventional coach compositions. Detailed trials are scheduled for February 16, 17, and 18 using WAP-5 and WAP-7 electric locomotives. These trials are being conducted under an independent safety audit supervised by an Italian safety assessment body to ensure global benchmarks.
