Phoenix Palassio Hosts Srinivasa Ramanujan Trophy 2026 to Mark International Chess Day

Lucknow : In a vibrant celebration of intellect and sportsmanship, Phoenix Palassio, Lucknow, in collaboration with the UP Chess Sports Association and the Lucknow Chess Association, successfully hosted the Srinivasa Ramanujan Trophy – International Chess Day Blitz Tournament 2026. The event brought together chess enthusiasts of all age groups to showcase strategic acumen and fast-paced decision-making.

The high-stakes tournament followed the Blitz format using the Swiss System, allotting each participant 3 minutes with a 2-second increment per move. Designed to nurture emerging talent and promote chess across the region, the competition provided a premier platform for players competing across multiple age divisions, ranging from Under-7 to Under-19, alongside Open, Women, and Veteran categories.

The prestigious occasion was attended by key sports dignitaries, including Mr. A. K. Raizada, Honorary General Secretary of the UP Chess Sports Association, and Mr. Rajesh Kumar Shahi, President of the Lucknow Chess Association. Top finishers across all categories were felicitated with trophies and gift hampers.

In the flagship Open category, Abhas Kumar claimed the championship title, with Anuj Yadav and Rishabh Srivastava taking second and third places, respectively. The Women’s division saw Avanya Dhillon secure the top spot, followed by Anshika Jain and Ahana Mukherjee. Prabhat Adhauliya triumphed in the Veteran category, ahead of Rajesh Rastogi and Rakesh Gupta.

Junior divisions showcased exceptional focus and skill:

• Under-7: Abhyam Mishra (Open) and Arna (Girls) claimed victory.
• Under-9: Reyansh (Open) and Jeeva (Girls) took top honors.
• Under-11: Mohammad Zaidan (Open) and Advika (Girls) emerged as champions.
• Under-13: Atharva (Open) and Faika (Girls) secured first place.
• Under-15: Shubh (Open) and Khadija (Girls) led their respective brackets.
• Under-17: Aarav (Open) and Lavanya (Girls) won top positions.
• Under-19: Medhansh won the Open division, while Kirti Chaurasia claimed the Girls' title.
