Prayagraj. Today much-awaited #MahaKumbhMela2025 began in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, attracting millions of devotees from across the country. This grand religious gathering is considered the world's largest pilgrimage event, held once every 12 years at the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
On the festival's first day, tens of thousands took a holy dip at the #TriveniSangam, believed to cleanse sins and bring spiritual blessings. Pilgrims brave the chilly waters as part of their faith-driven rituals, marking the beginning of a six-week celebration filled with religious discourses, spiritual meetings, and mass bathing ceremonies.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially inaugurated the festival on Sunday, welcoming saints, devotees, and tourists alike. May Maa Ganga fulfill all your prayers and bring prosperity to all,” he said during the inauguration ceremony.
Authorities have taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and security of the attendees. Approximately 40,000 security personnel have been deployed to manage the enormous crowds. Additionally, high-tech surveillance cameras with AI capabilities have been installed throughout the festival grounds to maintain peace and order.
The first ritual bath on Monday saw an estimated 2.5 million people participating. Priyanka Rajput, a first-time attendee from Delhi, shared her experience: “I came here with my deeply spiritual mother. The massive crowd is overwhelming but inspiring at the same time.”
To accommodate the influx of pilgrims, the riverbanks have been transformed into a vast township, complete with 150,000 tents, 3,000 kitchens, 145,000 toilets, and 99 designated parking areas. The arrangements aim to provide a comfortable and safe experience for all participants.
