KGMU Surgeons Triumph at International Surgical Conference in Charleston
Dr. Adiveeth Deb and Dr. Akash Agrawal from KGMU win top honors at the 86th Annual Surgical Update in Charleston.

Lucknow. In a remarkable achievement for King George's Medical University (KGMU), two senior residents from the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology have clinched top honors at the 86th Annual Surgical Update of the International College of Surgeons (ICS) held in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, from April 10–12, 2025.
Dr. Adiveeth Deb secured the first prize for his groundbreaking research titled "Prognostic Significance of Inhibitors of Apoptosis Proteins in Gallbladder Cancer." His study delved into the molecular mechanisms of gallbladder cancer, highlighting the role of apoptosis inhibitors in tumor progression. Dr. Akash Agrawal earned the second prize for his innovative work on "Heterodimerization of Cholecystokinin 1 and Cholecystokinin 2 Receptors in Gallbladder Cancer: A New Mechanism for Carcinogenesis," which explored novel receptor interactions contributing to cancer development.
The conference, a premier event in the surgical community, attracted participants from over 100 countries, underscoring the global recognition of KGMU's research excellence. Both studies were conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Abhijit Chandra, with guidance from Dr. Jaya Nigam and Dr. Utkarsh Srivastava, reflecting the department's commitment to advancing surgical science.
