Prayagraj: At 3 PM today, IFFCO Phulpur conducted a successful on-site emergency plan drill to simulate an ammonia leak at the Ammonia Storage Tank area. Key personnel from IFFCO, NTPC, local fire stations, and other emergency response teams attended the drill. This mock drill aimed to test the preparedness and effectiveness of emergency protocols in handling such critical incidents.

The scenario involved an ammonia leak at the Control Valve EVM-3501 flange of the Ammonia Storage Tank 2103 F. Upon detection of the leak, the storage tank operator immediately informed the Fire and Safety Head and the Bagging Engineer. The Fire and Safety Head and their team reached the site from the windward direction and started the procedure to control the ammonia leak.

As the situation became uncontrollable, Site Incident Controller Achal Johri reported the emergency to the Main Incident Controller, Senior Executive Director Sanjay Kudeshiya. The Main Incident Controller immediately instructed the Fire and Safety Head to sound the emergency siren, signaling all concerned officials and departments, including the fire department and senior management, to rush to the site.

The fire brigade, equipped with breathing apparatus, positioned their vehicles against the wind direction and assessed the leak. Using monitors, tenders, and trolleys, they worked to control the leak. During this process, a worker injured in the accident was rescued by the fire and safety team and transported by the medical team to the IFCO treatment center for further care.

SN Patel, Chief Manager of Offsite Maintenance, and his team were called to fix the valve. With the assistance of the Fire and Safety team, they donned breathing apparatus and gas-tight suits to repair the valve. Once the valve was fixed, the ammonia leak was successfully stopped. The Site Incident Controller informed the Main Incident Controller, who directed the sounding of the "Emergency Clear" siren, signaling the resolution of the emergency.

Throughout the drill, the Site Incident Controller maintained constant communication with the central control room, keeping the Main Incident Controller updated on the situation. A closing meeting was held, attended by General Manager Sanjay Vaish, Joint GM P.K. Verma (Urea), IOA General Secretary Swyam Prakash, Dr. Anita Mishra, Dr. Satya Prakash, Ratanesh Kumar, and Arun Kumar.

Under the leadership of Main Incident Controller Sanjay Kudeshiya, the entire team followed the emergency plan meticulously. Fireman Surendra Singh Bisht kept everyone informed throughout the drill, ensuring all were aware that it was a simulation. After the mock drill, a review meeting was held, led by Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Manager of Fire and Safety. During the meeting, Joint GM (Production) Sanjay Bhandari and Joint GM (Urea) P.K. Verma expressed their gratitude to the attendees for their cooperation and participation.
