GSVM Medical College Launches 3-Day National Hernia Conference
GSVM Medical College hosts national hernia conference, offering free laparoscopic surgeries to 15–20 underprivileged patients on April 13.

The conference aims to spotlight the latest techniques, complications, and best practices in hernia surgeries, with a strong emphasis on laparoscopic procedures. With hernia being one of the most common surgical conditions worldwide, the event has attracted top medical minds committed to advancing safe and effective treatment methodologies.
Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kala, Principal of GSVM Medical College, addressed the media and emphasized the college’s role as a hub for high-quality medical education and research.
"This conference represents a crucial step forward in both skill development and public healthcare. It will benefit not just practitioners but also the common people," he said.
A Landmark Program for Surgeons and Patients Alike
Dr. Shivanshu Mishra, the Organizing Secretary, highlighted that this is the first-ever FALLS (Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Lateral Skills) India Program in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in advanced surgical training.
"More than 300 surgeons from across the nation are participating. Post-conference, an evaluation exam will be conducted, and successful candidates will be awarded fellowship credentials," he explained.
Dr. G.D. Yadav, Head of the Department of Surgery at GSVM and Conference Chairman, shed light on the traditional open methods of hernia surgery still practiced widely in India.
He emphasized the need for simplifying and securing these procedures for broader application and patient safety.
"While open surgery remains predominant, we must work toward refining our methods to ensure maximum patient safety," he remarked.
Spotlight on Laparoscopic Innovation
Opening the academic session, Dr. Deepak Agrawal, President of Kanpur Surgical Club and a key conference organizer, delivered a talk on the history and advantages of laparoscopic hernia surgery.
He described how minimally invasive surgery has evolved over the years and is now transforming patient outcomes with faster recovery times and reduced complications.
Free Surgeries for the Underprivileged
One of the most commendable aspects of the event is the free hernia surgery initiative. As announced by Dr. G.D. Yadav, on April 13, 2025, the medical college will offer free laparoscopic hernia operations to 15–20 financially challenged patients.
Registrations were conducted from April 3 to April 10 at the Department of Surgery, and the procedures will utilize advanced minimally invasive techniques.
This outreach reflects the FALLS India Program’s vision—not only to advance surgical knowledge but also to extend its benefits to those who need it most.
"Our goal is to bridge the gap between modern surgical advancements and the rural or underserved sections of society," Dr. Yadav added.
A Win-Win for Healthcare
With its combination of academic learning, surgical training, and social service, the GSVM Hernia Conference is setting a benchmark in healthcare leadership and medical outreach.
It reaffirms the role of medical institutions in both knowledge dissemination and patient-centered service, ensuring that progress in medical science also translates into healing lives—especially those who often go without access to such care.
